School Information Eblast – August 31st, 2020

Dear Families and Friends,

This email replaces our traditional August mailer.

To those of you returning to us, welcome back, we have missed you.  To our new students in grades six, seven, and eight joining us from the Royal Winnipeg Ballet we welcome you to the community.  This year will certainly look different from any other, but we are happy to have our students back in school and look forward to reconnecting with everyone.  A reminder to please read our Re-Opening Plan before the first day of school on September 8th, as it contains important details regarding routines and procedures for the upcoming year, many of which differ from previous years.

Bulk school supplies have again been purchased, yielding savings for both the environment and our families. This year the cost is $61.00 per student (grades 1-8).  This cost covers common school supplies. Parents must still supply water bottles, backpacks, lunch kits, and scientific calculators (grades 7-8).   Please send a cheque payable to St. John Brebeuf School to the classroom teacher with your child on September 8th.

Students in grades three through eight will receive an agenda, compliments of the Parent Advisory Council.  Agendas are an important tool for building study and organizational skills in our students.  We ask that you encourage your children to develop the skill of properly entering daily key information into their agenda.

Reminders:

Uniforms – must be purchased on-line through Top Marks at www.topmarks.ca, school code: SJB01.  A reminder that pants must be purchased through Top Marks, other brands do not meet our uniform requirements.

Zoom Conference Triads - will be held on Friday, September 4th for students and their parents in grades one through eight.  Zoom conference times will be at 9am, 11am, and 1pm.  Students and parents may log in to the session most convenient for them.  Invitations will come via classroom teachers by email.  Specialist teachers will not host conferences this year.  Their information will be available on their portals at www.sjbschool.ca (password: bobcats) on Friday.

Kindergarten students – have separate assessment appointments and will not have a zoom conference.  This information has been communicated by their classroom teachers.

First day of school for grades 1 to 8 – will be on Tuesday, September 8th. This is a full school day.  Students are required to wear uniforms.

Before and After School Program – begins on Tuesday, September 8th.   Registration forms are available here and must be submitted along with payment by September 8th.  Forms may be dropped off in the school foyer before September 8th.  On September 8th, they must be sent to school with your child.  This year, casual users must give a minimum of 24 hours prior notice to use BASC.

Parent/Student Handbook – is available here.  Please read this important document over before the start of the school year.

School Calendar– and a list of important dates can be found under the calendar tab on the school homepage.   For your convenience, the important dates have also been attached to this email.  A September calendar will be sent home with your child in the first few days of school.  Please note that all days in September after the 8th are full school days with no early dismissals or in-service days.

Hot Lunch – PAC continues to explore ways to deliver a hot lunch program safely.

Milk Program -  is suspended until further notice.  The school is working on a plan to deliver the milk program and will communicate once it is in place.

Academy of Music – will be offering after school lessons in piano and guitar starting in September.  Please click here for information on registering.

Parents should expect emails to be answered by staff within two working days.  Any emails received past 4:30 pm may not be checked until the next day after 3:30 pm.  All emergencies should be reported to the school office at any time during the school day.

The school continues to work diligently on providing a safe environment for our students.

Wishing everyone a happy and successful school year.

Sincerely,

St. John Brebeuf School

St. John Brebeuf School is pleased to welcome back all of our students on a full time basis as of Tuesday, September 8th, 2020.

In all aspects of our re-opening, the school will follow the mandates provided by the provincial government, public health, and the department of education.  Here is a link to the most up to date information regarding the reopening of Manitoba schools:
